GREAT HIGHWAY ROBBERIES IN WWE HISTORY

#9 U.S. TITLE HEIST - REPUGNANT PILFERING
#9: The Miz and Jack Swagger took turns stealing Kofi Kingston's U.S. Championship in the weeks leading up to Hell in a Cell.

In the movie Raising Arizona, Nicolas Cage stars as an ex con who “happens” upon a baby with his wife. During one of the movie’s wild moments, Cage’s character attempts to rob a convenience store to score one item … diapers. And, much like the diapers in the movie, The Miz and Jack Swagger are both full of it – that was especially the case earlier this year when they each robbed Kofi Kingston of his U.S. Championship. This infantile behavior lands at No. 9 on List This! Great Highway Robberies is WWE History.

For two weeks straight, Kofi fell victim to the thievery. First, the self-proclaimed “Awesome One,” The Miz, walked out with Kofi’s bling after a loss in a title match on Raw. Apparently, this wasn’t the “awesome” result the obnoxious Ohioan expected – or touted to the audience before the first ring bell.

Less than a week later, “The All-American American” displayed his none-too-patriotic ways. Swagger initially blocked The Miz from stealing Kingston’s championship a second time, only to lift the gold himself after his own title match loss.

Can someone say “sore losers”?

But Kofi would have the last laugh at Hell in a Cell during a Triple Threat Match, when The Miz and Swagger couldn’t put their differences – or egos – aside and work together to defeat Kingston. In one of the most difficult matches in his young career, Kofi hit Trouble in Paradise and pinned The Miz to retain his coveted U.S. Championship under lock and key.

And, unlike the diapers in Raising Arizona, after Hell in a Cell, The Miz and Swagger’s thievery and excuses didn’t hold much water.

WWE MAGAZINE FEATURE OF THE WEEK

"WWE Magazine’s" all-new Holiday Issue heralds the arrival of today’s most talented young guns in WWE. But who, aside from themselves, do they think will be the first among them to reach mega-Superstardom? After all, this is the week to give thanks and appreciation to others.

    THE MIZ
“I think the person going all the way is the person I carried to the top as a tag team partner. John Morrison has talent, but he learned a lot from me. He’ll always be my No. 2.”

    JOHN MORRISON
“As big of a jerk as he is, The Miz is up there. In my opinion, the mark of a good Superstar is somebody who is emphatically himself. And he is 100-percent The Miz all of the time. As annoying and obnoxious and loud-mouthed and bad-breathed and close-talking as he is, those are all reasons why people watch television and think, ‘Man I don’t like that guy.’ It’s because he’s not acting. He really is that annoying — and that’s going to take him to the top.”

    WWE SUPERSTARS NOVEMBER 26TH 2009

U.S. Champ The Miz def. Santino Marella
It remains unclear who will be the next No. 1 contender for the U.S. Title. But in the meantime, the self-proclaimed “Awesome One" continues to dominate the competition.

After leading his team at Survivor Series to an imposing triumph over Intercontinental Champ and former tag team partner John Morrison’s troop, The Miz challenged the humorous, yet in-the-ring worthy, Santino Marella on “WWE Superstars.” Despite taking some punishment from the comedic challenger, the conceited Superstar managed to control the momentum most of the way, finishing his opponent with a vicious Skull Crushing Finale.

    RAW NOVEMBER 23RD 2009
Cole leads us to The Miz backstage at a Thanksgiving dinner table, telling what he's thankful for. He's thankful for his team at Survivor Series and being the most dominant US Champion of all-time. Actually, he's not thankful for those things because he expects greatness. He says the people should be thankful for getting the chance to watch him because he's awesome.

SURVIVOR SERIES RESULTS: MIZ-ERY LOVES COMPANY

To the surprise of many in the WWE Universe, United States Champion The Miz, Drew McIntyre, Jack Swagger, Sheamus & Dolph Ziggler were able to put their major egos aside and work together to take down the explosive squad of Intercontinental Champion John Morrison, Matt Hardy, Finlay, Evan Bourne & Shelton Benjamin in the opening bout of Survivor Series.

The match began with Raw rivals Evan Bourne and Jack Swagger squaring off in the center of the ring and quickly turned to chaos from there. Pinfalls quickly piled up as Superstars from each brand clashed, including a showdown between the tough Irishmen Sheamus and Finlay, which The Celtic Warrior won with a devastating front kick.

When the dust began to settle, John Morrison found himself alone and outnumbered against the seriously terrifying triumvirate of The Miz, Sheamus and Drew McIntyre. Throwing caution to the wind, The Shaman of Sexy attempted to overcome the odds with his explosive offense, but he simply couldn’t handle three vicious competitors at once. In the end, Morrison was slammed to the mat by The Celtic Warrior and pinned, giving Team Miz the victory.

The Miz has now racked up two consecutive pay-per-view victories over his former tag team partner. Obviously, this does not sit well with The Guru of Greatness and you can expect these two talented young Superstars to meet again.

Somewhat surprising considering his big mouth, but The Miz has been a fighting champion defending his title successfully on several occasions, including this week on Raw against MVP.
